I would like you to read it prior to your surgery so that you will be informed about normal preoperative and postoperative processes. Refer to it regularly to answer most of your questions. Pelvic pain is often the common complaint which brings a patient to the Doctor. However, this type of pain is not as simple as we used to think. It is quite complex and is defined as ‘an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience
associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage’ (IASP, 2015). Pain can be acute or chronic.
Menorrhagia is the medical name for abnormally heavy bleeding during menstruation. While many women are too embarrassed to raise the subject or feel that their bleeding is within normal limits, other women request treatment. While heavy periods are inconvenient, they can also lead to anaemia resulting in reduced energy and can have a very significant effect on women and on those around them. Episodes of flooding and embarrassing moments can be
very distressing and disabling.
Your colposcopy has revealed an abnormality on your cervix (neck of the womb) which may be a precancerous change and Dr. Ganu has recommended that this abnormal area be removed by as LLETZ procedure (large loop excision of the transformation zone).

Health care providers often ask if you period is “regular”. Regular / normal periods come every 3 to 5 weeks. This time is determined by the FIRST day of one period to the FIRST day of another period. When your period comes, it should last 5 to 7 days. There can be heavier bleeding at the beginning of your period.
Endometrial ablation means the removal of the endometrium (or the lining of the uterus). It is one way to treat heavy periods or abnormal menstrual bleeding. For some women it can be an alternative to hysterectomy.
